Stefano Bolognini

Psychiatrist, Training and Supervising Analyst of the Italian Psychoanalytical Society, former National Scientific Secretary and then President of the Italian Psychoanalytical Society.

Representative for Europe in the first IPA Board (2003-2007) and member and Chair of several IPA committees, he has been President of the International Psychoanalytical Association from 2013 to 2017.

For 10 years (2002-2012) he was member of the European Editorial Board of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis; he was member of the EPF Theoretical Working Party (2001-2004); he is Honorary Member of the New York Contemporary Freudian Society (CFS) and of the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies (LAISPS); Honorary Member of the Florence Psychoanalytic Center (CPF); member of the Advisory Board of the International Psychoanalytic University of Berlin (IPU).

He is the founder of the IPA Inter-Regional Encyclopedic Dictionary of Psychoanalysis (IRED), where he was Chair from 2014 to 2021. His main scientific interests regard Psychoanalytic Empathy, Interpsychic Dimension, Institutional Organizations and Issues, Educational Process, Theory of Technique.Bolognini has published 270 psychoanalytic papers in international books and journals.

Some of his books have been translated in many languages: “Like Wind, Like Wave” (a collection of short stories analytically explored); “Psychoanalytic Empathy”; “Secret Passages. The Theory and Technique of the psychoanalytic Relations”. His last book “Vital Flows between Self and Not-Self”, exploring the distinction between Interpsychic, Intersubjective and Interpersonal, has been by Routledge (London) and Blucher (San Paolo), and is in publication by APA Editorial (Buenos Aires).
